Together by the Sea

Joy, a fishing village girl who dreams of becoming a captain, and her friends Smelly and Beans always fantasize about the vast sea beyond the breakwaters. They secretly plan to build a small boat together during winter vacation, aiming for an adventurous voyage before Smelly leaves the village. However, boat construction and the sea voyage test their friendship. Will the boat be completed before winter ends? How will they overcome challenges and bid farewell to their departing friend?

Director Biography - Pei-Tsen HUNG

畢業於臺灣藝術大學電影系，輔修戲劇系。目前為導演、編劇，也從事電影選角工作，成長於靠海農村，鍾情本土故事，以及海洋與兒少題材的創作。在學習表演的路上，得以體驗不同年齡層的生活樣態，這些養分與觀察也持續挹注到創作上。
Graduated from NTUA's motion picture and drama departments. Director, casting, screenwriter. Grew up by the sea, loves ocean and youth themes. Acting experience inspires story ideas.

Director Statement

兒時常聽大人告誡「男生不能哭」、「女生要氣質」，彷彿因為性別不同而有其規範 ；也常被提醒海是危險的，台灣的民忌中有農曆七月不能去海邊的觀念。

台灣四面環海，與海靠近卻對海陌生甚至懼怕，本片以漁村為背景，主角是嚮往馳騁海洋的女孩，想藉此邀請大家一起探險、親近孕育我們的海洋，不論是女孩男孩、小孩大人，都可以揮灑好奇心與想像力，向世界提出挑戰，成為自己喜歡的樣子。
Taiwan, surrounded by the sea, has an unfamiliar and sometimes fearful relationship with it. This film, set against the backdrop of the sea and a fishing village, follows a girl who yearns to explore the ocean. Therefore invites everyone to join her in exploring and getting close to the ocean that nurtures us. Whether you're a girl or boy, child or adult, you can unleash curiosity and imagination, challenge the world, and become the person you want to be.
