Director Statement

After working with art director Mathias Fellner for the first two COLACOASTER music videos: "Where am I" and "Not more than you and me" in Sicily, I decided - due to Corona - in summer 2021 - to stay local and produce the music video for the new Colacoaster track ‘Todo’ in various regions in my home country Austria.

I wanted to keep the imagery in black and white as well as the idea of shooting exclusively in daylight, aiming to create a music video which could also be considered a short film of sorts with more narrative elements compared to the more abstract approach of the first two music videos.

First choice for the female lead alongside the artist Colacoaster was the actress Michou Friesz who has been a great inspiration for me since a long time. Her collaboration catapulted the project to the next level.

Inspired by the lyrics of the song, locations, architecture, actors, and lighting moods were scouted in spring of 2021 - grief, doubt, quarrel, relationship, friendship, family but also fantasies, loneliness, suicide and longing became central themes of the film.

The first associations with the music and the title of the song were those of a modern, sensitive and lonely "western hero", in the form of the fictional character Colacoaster - after various incidents in his life and in his relationship he is considering leaving the country or even life.

The message of the film should (perhaps for many people who are plagued by similar questions and problems or face similar decisions in their life) be, that at the end of the day everything revolves not only about your own, often troubled ego, but also about people and, above all, close and loved people who would find it difficult to continue to live with the possible loss of a partner, friend or relative.

People in the context of art, fashion, design or architecture have been the subject of many of my work for me as a photographer for almost thirty years.

Although I would describe myself as a philanthropist and personally have no thoughts on the subject of suicide, I can relate to the problems, feelings and thoughts from young people and artists in times of pandemics, social media, social distancing, social or climate change.

Art, music, film and photography have become important "medicine" in our time.

The shooting took place in many exciting locations, with established actors but also young, yet undiscovered talents. This shaped my summer of 2021. I really enjoyed the valuable new contacts we made in the process of creating this film - with priests, horse lovers, architects, undertakers, models or artists etc. After the successful cinema premiere in November 2021, I am looking forward to upcoming new music videos or film projects with inspiring people.
