Director Biography - Hesam Dehghani

Hesam Dehghani is an acclaimed Iranian filmmaker whose work focuses on psychological and social themes, often through the lens of young female protagonists. His short fiction and documentary films have been screened and awarded at numerous international festivals. With a cinematic style that blends emotional intensity with sharp storytelling, Dehghani continues to gain recognition on the global stage.

His recent short film My Beautiful Doll (2024) was selected in over 17 international film festivals. Previous works such as Trauma (2019), The Darkest Side (2021), and Lost Empire of Persia (2022) have also received multiple awards and critical acclaim.

Director Statement

The issue of teenage girls being bullied or threatened by older men is not limited to Iran — it’s a global problem. Around the world, some men develop dangerous obsessions with young girls and use manipulation and deceit to gain control over them.

To the Edge of Hell tells the story of Helia, a teenage girl who finds herself trapped in a deeply unsettling and dangerous situation. She realizes that the only way to survive is to play along.

With this film, I wanted to explore the inner strength of girls like Helia — a strength that often goes unrecognized. I believe that when young women are given the space and support to think clearly and analyze their circumstances, they are capable of remarkable courage and resilience — even in the darkest of moments.
