Following an MA in Scriptwriting at Manchester Writing School Jilly was a finalist in the 2021 Alfred Bradley Bursary Award with a radio play called Driving Lessons about a young woman with Down’s Syndrome. Bush theatre then selected Jilly to be an emerging writer on their development scheme where she wrote Desire Lines, a stageplay about love, loss and protest.
Jilly has an original animation in development with Lime Pictures. Balloon Pictures are in development with Hope and Social an original drama series and New Pictures have optioned and developed Special an ambitious comedy drama featuring Disabled talent in lead roles. Pulse have also optioned Debbie Townsend Is A Slag, an original drama series.

Jilly’s writing career emerges from decades of experience in making plays with Deaf Disabled and neurodivergent talent. Attached is a Ted Talk that she gave called Seeing The Ability and a trailer for Sailing Away which was performed by and for the Deaf community.
I am keen to create an ambitious film that features Disabled talent in lead roles; a popular, funny, heartwarming yet provocative story that generates conversation. I hope that Tiny Dynamite might work as a brilliant short in it’s own right but also as a proof of concept film for a larger feature film that includes subplots around Kerri and Anthony’s marriage difficulties. I want to create authored TV drama, original plays and film that celebrates love in all its myriad presentations, familial, romantic and sexual. Jilly Sumsion (Writer)
