Elena, a marketing executive from Bulgaria, and Michael, an American aerospace engineer, embark on a planned vacation to Southeast Asia but are quickly stranded in Thailand due to border closures from the emerging Covid-19 pandemic.
Over the next 18 months, they crisscross the entire country on every conceivable mode of transportation, avoiding monsoons and learning to get by without knowing the language or local customs.
They experience the exciting capital of Bangkok, historic ruins of ancient Siam, countless temples, local markets, remote islands, gorgeous beaches, underwater caves, longtail boat rides, floods, critters and bugs of every kind, traditional yo (square net) fishing, and sample every kind of Thai food imaginable.
In the process of assimilating the local culture, the couple immerses themselves in the Thai mindset and a slower pace of life.
During this unforeseen adventure, several of Elena’s lifelong dreams come true. They both discover many life lessons and resolve to change old habits and embrace a new way of living.

This feature project is very close to my heart. I want to share with viewers the experience of being stranded in a foreign country and learning to get by without knowing the language or local customs. During this unforeseen time away from home, I discovered many life lessons and resolved to change old habits and embrace a new way of living. Sharing this experience is my way to thank the Thai people for their hospitality and kindness.
