Thomas Schuette - I am not alone
How can one meet the awareness of human mortality with melancholy, anger and wit? For more than 40 years Thomas Schütte has been finding surprising answers on paper, in clay, glas or bronze.
A three-meter-high sculpture, a mermaid is placed in a New York gallery. Where does this enigmatic creature come from? The film shows the creation of the "Nixe" and Schütte's collaboration with various workshops for what it is: teamwork in which everyone contributes their knowledge, some of which is centuries old. A fascinating game with various materials, ideas and forms. In the middle of it all the artist smoking, thoughtful and always ready to rethink and comment the world in his unique pictures and objects.

Corinna Belz has written and directed numerous film productions, including “Life After Microsoft”(2001), ”Other American Voices” Her first film about Gerhard Richter’s work, “The Cologne Cathedral Window” (2007), was awarded the World Media Gold Award – Art Documentaries. Her feature-length cinema documentary “Gerhard Richter Painting” (2011), won much critical acclaim and was awarded the German Film Prize in Gold (highest honours in German cinema). The film ran nine weeks at the Film Forum in NY. It ran successfully in France, Italy, Netherlands, Great Britain, Poland and other European countries. In 2016 her feature-length documentary “Peter Handke - In the Woods Might be Late” premiered at the Film Festival Locarno, Official Selection.
In 2017 a new collaboration with Gerhard Richter was launched, together with composer Steve Reich: The abstract film “MOVING PICTURE (946-3)”. Under the title "Reich/Richter" the performance was first performed in 2019 at The Shed in New York, where it was given over one hundred times. A performance accompanied by Richter and Belz's film is set for April 1, 2023 at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, here by the LA Phil New Music Group under the direction of Brad Lubman. Belz' feature length documentary "Inside the Uffizi" has been released in autumn 2021. Corinna Belz lives in Cologne and Berlin.
