This is not Stockholm

In a late-winter Japanese city, Kenkichi, a man unsettled by the present world and oddly out of touch in a sincere, old-fashioned way, is dragged into an overnight standoff with a reckless teenager while the police close in. Instead of acting like a hero, Kenkichi tries to organize chaos with misplaced logic, quiet authority, and small human rituals like pizza and forgotten TV commercials. As fear mixes with deadpan humor, every attempt to control the situation only deepens it. Trapped between responsibility and absurdity, Kenkichi discovers that surviving a crisis sometimes means negotiating with reality itself — and realizing how badly prepared he is for the modern one.

Writer Biography - Haruhiko Cho

Born and raised in Japan, I draw deeply from Japanese culture and storytelling traditions in my work. I am a bilingual writer working in both English and Japanese, with a strong interest in blending science, history, and human emotion in genre-driven stories.

I have written across multiple formats, including feature screenplays, fiction, and audio dramas. My feature film screenplay Louisiana Story has been recognized by several screenwriting competitions. I am also the author of the self-published juvenile novel The Oldest Living Boy (available on Amazon) and the Japanese science fiction novel Let’s Go to the Forest, published on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō platform.

I am passionate about creating stories that cross cultural boundaries and explore universal themes through a speculative and emotional lens.
