Director Biography - Simon Christopher

Simon Christopher Cabello was born on 24 June 1994 in Prariewood, New South Wales Australia.

His passion for film and story telling started as early as twelve years of age. He wrote his first screenplay (an indie horror film) from a proof of concept while he was still in high school. His first screenplay received personal recognition and good feedback from Australian director and producer James Wan (Saw, The Conjuring) which further gave him the push to keep working on his craft.

Although his first attempt at directing and producing his first feature film never took off, Simon never gave up and continued to network with industry professionals. For a time, Simon focused on acting, scoring his first ever role in the award-winning film Drown by Australian director Dean Francis in 2015. For 2 years Simon worked in his local theatre taking part in award-winning plays and productions. He also spent a couple of years studying Miesner at the Actors Pulse before moving away from acting and focusing more on writing and directing.

In 2021, Simon had assisted a friend in her debut award-winning short film Unbarred which further inspired him to begin writing again and completing his debut short Black Truck (2022).

Black Truck went on to receive 3 wins winning Best Australian Screenplay at the London Script Awards, Best Edit at the Athens International Art Film Festival and Best Child Actor and First Time Director Awards New York.
