The unfreedom

The documentary shows the problem of domestic violence in the North Caucasus region of Russia. Four women tell us their stories of dealing with domestic violence in varying degree: the severe beatings, the death of 2 sons in a fire, the bringing up a physically challenged child and illegal drug usage are only a small part of what women had to face.

Director Biography - Angelina Podorozhnaya

Angelina Podorozhnaya was born in Siberia, Krasnoyarsk city. She was studying at The High Courses for Scriptwriters and Film Directors (the course of Vladimir Menshov, Vladimir Tumaev and Natalya Ryazantseva) from 2015 to 2018. She was director of the short film "The Bitches" (Honorable mention of the competition program of the 24th Open Festival of Student and Debut Films "Sacred Anna", 2017), the short documentary "Nicotine virginity" (Participant of the out-of-competition program "Environment" 12th International Documentary Film Festival "ArtDOCFest", 2018; Participant of the 5th International Film Festival "8 women", 2019), the documentary "The legalized pain" (Participant of the competition program "ArtDOCWeb" 13th International Documentary Film Festival "ArtDOCFest", 2019; The Special prize of the Canadian Embassy in the Russian Federation at the 25th International human rights Film Festival "Stalker", 2019; The Special prize of the Rose Luxembourg Fund at the 6th International Film Festival "8 women", 2020), the short documentary "The king-sized Big Tasty" (Participant of the out-of-competition program "Environment" 14th International Documentary Film Festival "ArtDOCFest", 2020-2021), the short documentary "Martha Is in August" (Participant of the out-of-competition program "Environment" 14th International Documentary Film Festival "ArtDOCFest", 2020-2021), the short documentary "The Unfreedom" (Participant of the competition program at the Women Documentary Film Festival "Sisterhud.doc", 2022).
