The resistance of Casale Monferrato

What is resilience? What does it mean to be reactive? How do you fight for public health and environment protection while strongly believing in the rule of law and the public institutions? If thousands of asbestos victims, whether dead or sick because of the asbestos fibers inhaled, are still demanding justice in the courtrooms, Casale Monferrato stands out as the example of a community who did not succumb to the tragedy caused by Eternit, the biggest asbestos cement plant in Europe. Casale Monferrato becomes the symbol of a civic resistance through the memory, the asbestos removal, caregiving and culture.
A four year struggle that put back under the spotlight the issues related to public health and environment.
Nowadays where there was the factory that caused the death of thousands of people you can find the Eternot park.
Asbestos is everybody’s problem: at least 10 people die every day because of it and hundreds of thousands of public spaces in Italy, including schools and hospitals, are still contaminated.
