There's No Such Thing As Sahlab!

"There's No Such Thing As Sahlab!" is a short film about a guy who's having a really bad day. He's just broke up with his girlfriend and to make things worse, he's been told by the doctor that he can only eat vegetables because of some health issues. The problem is, his favorite vegetable is actually is not even a vegetables, but it is a legume, and he can't eat it anymore!

To take his mind off things, he tries to watch a football match, but his satellite receiver and internet fail him. So, he goes to a cafe to catch the game but can't find a seat. And to top it all off, they don't even have his favorite drink!

As the stress of all this builds up, he starts to lose it. everyone including his best friend tell him to practice self-control and patience, but he just can't take it anymore. Will he be able to keep it together or will he explode?

Director Biography - A. AYOUB

Ayoub is a first-time filmmaker and storyteller based in Cairo, Egypt. He has always had a passion for cinema and the power of storytelling, even though he pursued a career outside of the film industry to pay the bills. After years of dreaming of producing his own films, Ayoub finally took the leap and wrote, shot, directed, and edited his debut short film with a minimal production budget.

Despite not having the resources of a large production budget, Ayoub's creativity and resourcefulness allowed him to bring his vision to life. Balancing a full-time job with the demanding schedule of filmmaking was a difficult challenge, but Ayoub's passion and dedication kept him motivated to pursue his dream of making movies. With a strong desire to tell meaningful stories and connect with audiences, Ayoub is committed to continuing his journey as a filmmaker and bringing more of his stories to the screen.

Director Statement

As a first-time filmmaker, I am honored to share my debut short film, "There's No Such Thing As Sahlab!", with audiences worldwide. For years, I have been captivated by the art of cinema and its transformative power to unite people and drive change.

Through this film, I aimed to exhibit how seemingly trivial events that start as silly jokes can have an unforeseen impact when viewed through the lens of human complexity, prompting us to question our perceptions and beliefs about love, loss, and the pursuit of purpose. My hope is that this story will resonate with viewers and spark meaningful conversations that inspire personal reflection and growth.

As a team, we faced numerous challenges balancing a full-time job with the demands of production, but I am immensely proud of what we were able to achieve. Filmmaking is a collaborative art form, and I am indebted to the unwavering support and dedication of everyone who helped bring this project to life.

As I continue on my journey as a filmmaker, I am eager to explore new stories, push the boundaries of what is possible on screen, and inspire others to share their own stories. For within each of us lies a wealth of untold experiences, waiting to be shared with the world.
