In the current political climate, I must say that I am terrified. I'm terrified of the government's proposed ban on lifesaving care for trans kids. I'm terrified of the proposed segregation that attempts to erase trans people from public life. I'm terrified that I might never be able to legally exist as non-binary. I'm terrified for my family who stand up for me, I'm terrified for my friends whose family won't stand up for them, I'm terrified for myself as I begin my medical transition, plunging myself into gender euphoria and make myself truly visible to the world and vulnerable to hate - both verbal and physical.
When I feel this terror, so deep and unshakable, I take myself to the hills, the countryside, where I can be on my own, escaping the white noise of the towns and cities. But I wonder how long this will last, before the noise reaches the countryside, before the men and women with pitchforks and torches will come knocking at my door. This film is an expression of this fear, a simple plea to notice me and the other 0.5% of the population who can't escape, and just have to keep telling ourselves that there's no country like our own, no beauty like this anywhere else - no place like home.
