Director Statement

Through my documentary, The Liminal Identity, I explore the subtle yet profound emotional connections linking individuals and the social structures they navigate. The hand serves as a central metaphor in this work, symbolizing both intimate personal experiences and broader societal dynamics.

As someone who has experienced migration firsthand, my aim is to delicately portray how individuals, especially Korean millennials now living in Germany, navigate their complex identities between two cultures, two languages, and multiple emotional landscapes. I want to shed light on how their personal struggles reflect and influence structural social challenges.

This documentary emerges from my conviction that meaningful change is rooted not only in visible activism but also in quiet moments of empathy, understanding, and connection. By interweaving intimate narratives with sociological perspectives, I invite audiences to reflect upon their own roles within these shared structures of support and solidarity.

My hope is that through this work, we might recognize the quiet strength in our collective vulnerability, and find ways to be gently present for one another, building safer spaces, together.
