EN-us

“The Night of the Blood Moon” draws on the folklore of the werewolf legend, one of the most well known myths in Brazil’s Northeast, as a metaphorical framework to reflect on forced displacement and the fear of losing a sense of belonging and connection to one’s territory.

The animation uses classic horror elements to portray rural daily life, following an elderly man and his dog as they face a threat seeking to take over his land. In resisting, he endures profound losses, from his family to his crops, symbolizing a process of expulsion and revealing a literal territorial erasure of his lived experiences and bonds with the land.

“Territorial erasure” Definition: it is the systematic suppression of the presence, culture, and history of traditional groups (Indigenous peoples, quilombola communities, and Black communities) from their living spaces. It occurs both through the physical destruction of territories, such as the expansion of agribusiness, mining, or exclusionary urbanization, and through symbolic invisibilization, silencing memories and cultural references.
