Director Biography - Jackie Bao

Jackie is a filmmaker based in Los Angeles. She is a first-generation Taiwanese American and is drawn towards highlighting experiences of connection and empathy. She attended AFI and was a participant of the AFI CIW and Double the Line programs. Prior to film, she studied photography and human rights and worked at Magnum Photos. She is a graduate of Bard College and Carnegie Mellon. She loves movies, surfs on small days, and hikes with her dog Billy.

I’m a cinematographer born and raised in Los Angeles. I’m drawn towards highlighting experiences of connection and visualizing emotions to tell the story. I believe the work we do together as filmmakers help heal and increase our capacity for empathy for each other. I love what I do.
