Director Biography - Kasia Damulewicz

She graduated with a BA in Film, Television, and Theatre Production from the Łódź Film School (Poland) in 2013.

Between 2008 and 2017, she built extensive experience as a Production Assistant, managing budgets of up to £100,000 and preparing call sheets for crews of up to 160 cast and crew members. During this time, she also worked as a Director of Photography and camera assistant on numerous independent music videos and short narrative films.

In addition to her production work, she has experience as a film production lecturer, delivering workshops and educational programs for children from childcare homes and various charitable organizations.

After relocating to the United Kingdom in 2015, she worked in theatre as a First Assistant Director and Personal Assistant to the Director. She subsequently began directing and producing short documentary films and projects across multiple genres.

Since 2018, she has been actively directing and producing her own independent film projects, working confidently across a wide range of genres.

She is personally inspired by U.S. and Scandinavian death metal, UK heavy metal, and Australian stoner rock. She lives and works in North London.

Director Statement

THE LUNATIC is a debut short horror film by Polish filmmakers, created between Poland and the United Kingdom. Originally completed in 2010, the film remained unfinished in its intended form for over a decade. The opening and closing credit animations, original music score, and poster design were ultimately completed between 2020 and 2022.

During production in Kraków, the director’s original artistic vision was constrained by multiple creative and production challenges. In 2020, the project was rediscovered and reborn, allowing the film to be revisited, re-edited, and completed in September 2022 in alignment with the director’s original cut and creative intent.
