The Wasted Effort

Attila lives alone in a small town and finds a lira while walking on the road. Attila then uses a lira to buy a loaf of bread from the oven and returns to his home. At his house, he starts to prepare lunch. He sits down with the lunch he made and the bread he got from the bakery.

After eating half of the bread, he decides to rest a little. Half of the bread on the table is stale after a day. When Attila sees the bread stale on the table, he throws it in the trash. After he throws the bread in that trash, time flows backward. All details are shown, from making bread in the oven to planting wheat in the ground. The farmer spreads wheat on the ground. And then a few wheat grains fall on the side of the road. At another time, one lira falls on the roadside wheat grains.

Director Biography - Muhammed Bozbey

Award-winning Turkish film director, Producer, Scenarist, Actor and Musician.

Muhammed Bozbey was born in Turkiye in 1988. He completed elementary, middle and high school education in İstanbul. Throughout his education, he carried out many artistic activities such as concerts and theatre. He got into Gaziantep University State Conservatory in 2008. In 2009, he was accepted into İstanbul Halic University Conservatory. He graduated from the same school in 2013.

He worked as stage actor in Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Show and Art Center in 2014-2016. As a freelancer, he made a music video, directed an introduction film and worked as a critic at Kashna publishing house. Beside musicianship and acting, he went to America and studied Film Direction in Los Angeles.

He was part of the team that organized the 1st Hollywood Turkish Film Festival in Los Angeles in the fall of 2017. He became a member of Jury at the same film festival. In 2018, he worked as an assistant director for music videos, live broadcasts, and TV programs in Los Angeles.

After completing his education in America, he returned to Turkey and shot his first short film project “The Wasted Effort” which was written and directed by him.

This short film “The Wasted Effort” met with the audience at many festivals around the world by raising awareness about the value of “labor and laborer” at the world premiere. It was nominated for many awards. This film was the beginning of a long career for projects that benefit humanity.

Director Statement

This short film tells you everything that you need to know before you deiced to throw away any amount of food or clothing. Sometimes it can be bought for large or small fees, or even at no cost. A loaf of bread goes through an incredible process to come to your table. In the process of making bread, many people, including farmers and bakers, put a lot of effort. Therefore, nobody in the world should cause effort and food waste. Sharing with living else in need is the best behavior that suits a person.

As I have always said, The food might not have cost you much, but it took a lot of effort and sacrifice to get to your plate. Every piece of food thrown away adds to another man's hunger and wastes another person's labor.
