Savas Alpaltun is a London-based director and writer, originally from Adana, Turkey. A graduate of Erciyes University’s Cinema and TV programme, he began his career as an assistant director on numerous dramas and TV series. Inspired by Kurdish-Turkish filmmaker Yilmaz Güney, Savas wrote and directed the award-winning documentary The Fountain of Life, screened at multiple festivals. Since moving to the UK in 2012, he has worked as a director and DOP for major TV channels, and in 2020 earned an MA in Film and TV Production from the University of Hertfordshire.
I grew up in Adana, Turkey, surrounded by stories rich in resilience, humour, and human complexity. After studying Cinema and TV at Erciyes University, I honed my craft as an assistant director on dramas and TV series, inspired by Yılmaz Güney’s fearless storytelling. My award-winning documentary The Fountain of Life affirmed my belief in cinema’s power to connect cultures. Since moving to the UK in 2012, I’ve worked as a director and DOP for major TV channels and completed an MA in Film and TV Production. My artistic vision blends the serious and the absurd, using humour to explore vulnerability and resilience, always aiming to leave audiences seeing the familiar from a fresh, thought-provoking angle.
