I'm Sherri Dahl,. I am a proficient, award winning actress and indie film producer based in Calgary. I recently became a writer and director in my own right.
I am a full time mother of 2 now-adult humans, with a previous career and training in corporate interior design and space planning (residential and corporate design) as well as a Lifetime of creating artwork and imagery through any and all mediums available, as well
as a childhood filled with music and drama.
I became involved in the film industry in Calgary in 2007 as a “mom manager”, and at the prompting of coaches, progressed into the art of acting - at first volunteering for projects from the UofC summer student films to volunteering as actor and crew for independent feature films, short films, web series and music videos, as well as working in commercials (Vote Alberta Commercial, MortgageWorx commercial) and a few union projects for TV and web pilots.
I have grown into feature roles in a number of full length and short films including U17 and Paris's Apple by Sharda Entertainment, Disguise by FrameProductions in Edmonton, Silent Signs by Aalthara Creations and just recently as principal character Maggie in Rent A Groom.
In 2019, I was awarded Best Supporting Actress for my role as Carole in "U17".
In 2020, I started a little project called Bedtime Stories for Nightowls, (found on Facebook) , a vlog cold read narration style story time reading from a book I inherited from my father from 1938. I also wrote, produced and directed my first short film in that same year, with a team of motivated actors and crew in Calgary. JUST RIGHT GIRL has been submitted to festivals for audience viewing.
I truly enjoy working with focused and passionate creatives to help bring characters and stories to life, on screen and through audio narration, and I love finding solutions to challenging situations.

I directed this film, The Urgent Phone Call, because the writer said I could! I found James' story to be a great short story, that showcased what so many of us want to do but only ever think of in hindsight and that's to Turn The Tables on unwanted spam phone calls. The topic of scam phone calls to seniors is a very relevant (and personal) one but rather than delve into the dark side, we were determined to take a more light hearted, 'gotcha' kind of approach. In our subsequent conversations about the incident being described, I felt that I could take this very short story and turn it into a very short film with a fun twist and simple message. And keep it entertaining. The music from The Pink Martinis added immensely to that feeling.
We did approach this short film as a professional team with camera, lighting, sound, script supervisor, assistant director, set decoration et al, with a crew of experienced and inexperienced people alike, and we were hugely supported by the Calgary Society of Independent Filmmakers in their offer of location and use of equipment for the one day, one location shoot. And although we did do auditions with some very talented local actresses, I decided that I would take on the role of the Senior because I felt, after many discussions with the writer/producer, I could embody the emotions the character was feeling and maybe also keep my acting career afloat. Thankfully, I had a great first assistant director and director of photography to direct me as I sat in the Actor's chair.
I enjoyed all aspects of creating this film, from pre production to post production and look forward to creating, directing, producing and acting in future films.
