The Source of it All
A magical realist, queer film about chance and eternity, inspired by the works of Derek Jarman. When a young artist meets a mysterious boy at a party, they turn down the chance to go to a dazzling but deadly party on a frozen river, that has deeper consequences than they could imagine.

Will J. Wood is a young, queer British filmmaker and writer whose work attempts to create unique, rich character-led stories. He aims to root the art of the queer future with our deep cultural heritage. His debut short FUGUE was shown at festivals last year, won Honourable Mention and was shortlisted for best LGBT director at London film festivals. His poetry and short stories have been published in magazines in London, Cambridge and Europe.
Having explored the formal textures of classical music in my first short film FUGUE (2022), I wanted my next project to escape traditional style to find its own evocative and playful voice. I am often drawn back to the work of Derek Jarman as a filmmaker who expresses the chaos and serendipity of life in his super 8 experiments and films such as THE GARDEN (1990) and EDWARD II (1991), and I decided to follow his lead in making THE SOURCE OF IT ALL. The story starts with a party scene modelled on the queer chaos of JUBILEE (Jarman, 1977) but then through a series of coincidences finds itself in the rich, highly saturated glow of a forest, far from the urban world we started. Nature too can be a queer refuge. My final aim was to make something mythical.
