College has taught me all too well that time is indeed fleeting. There are moments in our lives we only get to live once, and we too often get caught up in the future; we forget to enjoy the moments we are living in right now. The Sorrows of the Past is a reminder that there are chapters in our lives, each with its own end. These chapters become memories we can look back on but never relive, highlighting the importance of enjoying what is right in front of us. I wrote and directed this film in my senior year of college, knowing that this particular chapter of my life was coming to an end. I decided to tell this story through the relationship between Carmon and Lawrence, and the fragility of life. I wanted to create something that many people can relate to and connect with. My hope is that every person who watches the film is moved enough to pause and appreciate the chapter they are living in right now, knowing it will one day be a memory.
