Writer Statement

I left school and tried to get on my local drama course 2 years running as all I ever wanted to be was an actor.
I was turned down as I was told my lifestyle wasn't conducive to the other students as they were all funded by their parents and I was working full time as a bouncer supporting myself.
Devastated as i felt my dreams were over before they had begun i drifted for a decade and self destructed as i wasn't following my dreams.
When I was 32 i went back to the same course, got my theatre degree and wrote and staged and acted in my simple 2 man play DOORWAYS regarding my 20 years as a bouncer.
I was fortunate to win a 2 year writing scholarship with the National theatre. I then staged my play 'Searching' about my time as a young man in the forces.
I was also fortunate to win an acting scholarship to New York Film Academy. i bought a taxi to work around the clock as I had to save the cash to live in Manhattan for a year. I also entered a cage fighting tournament for a prize of 5 grand but unfortunately I broke my leg. But every cloud has a silver lining and I decided to turn my play Doorways into a feature film myself, even though i had no cash or experience. I just got up and didi it. i raised then money from local businesses and sold my taxi. I wrote/directed/co-produced and acted in it, it was like a self given apprenticeship, I taught myself. I have since made 2 more feature films and am currently in post production on RELENTLESS. Creating and cinema is my life.
