Director Statement

We have big dreams and a small budget to create a documentary about an iconic cafe. Its history dates to 1908, when it began as a neighborhood grocery store. Today it is a beloved social hub in Portland, Oregon.

Along the way there were obstacles to its survival, including economic depressions, urban renewal and a lock-down due to the Covid 19 pandemic. What you see here is the beginning of our journey to tell that story.

Combined with clear and simple narration and a music bed, we believe this one minute pitch video will motivate viewers to donate and help make our documentary possible.

"Very nice. It has a nice feel and says everything that needs to be said. Good luck on fundraising...always the hardest part of making a documentary."
--- Milt Ritter, former Director of Production, Oregon Public Broadcasting
