Director Statement

I began my career in the entertainment industry as a stand-up comedian in my twenties for more than a decade and when I wrote and directed “The Road Dog”, I wanted to capture the authenticity and realism of the comedy world during its decline in the 1980s and 1990s. I am incredibly thrilled with Doug’s performance, who immediately recognized the true reflection of the comedy world in the script.

With "The Road Dog," I aimed to stay true to life and capture the struggles of addiction and the humorous yet real raw moments that often accompany it. This film is dedicated to my older brother David Glienna, who struggled with alcoholism and has been missing for three years. It is also loosely based on a comedian that my co-writer Tony Boswell and I knew well.
I firmly believe that a more inclusive and representative team leads to better storytelling, and I am excited that “The Road Dog” is part of this effort. As the director, I see my role as the final draft of the screenplay, and I hope audiences will appreciate the film as much as I do.
