The River and The Glen: Camp Trans Scotland
The first Scottish Camp Trans happened in September 2024, near Aberfeldy. Cradled by the mountains, far away from cis-society for a weekend, we existed on our own terms and built a world centering care. Far from being a commodified retreat, Camp Trans was a coming together of trans people to rest and restore our strength.
Taking us back to the golden misty mornings, the waterfall and the campfire, this documentary explores how community care, trans ancestry and nature were the pillars of Camp Trans.

Jules is a non-binary filmmaker and photographer based in the Scottish Borders. They are currently exploring how places, both urban and rural, shape us and what they mean for queer identities and practices. Jules is particularly interested in how we connect with queer people from the past through film and video as we create our own archive in the present.
Camp Trans Scotland has changed my life. Experiencing the magic of the land while feeling held and responsible for each other’s well-being was a truly unique moment. We are so used to being in queer community in bars and clubs, and to a certain extent, seeing rural spaces as not ‘ours’. Something I am deeply passionate about, as a queer/trans person living in the countryside. This camp showed us all that we belonged to the place and people we were sharing that time with.
