The Return of a Legend: Na Hoon-a's Contactless Concert
This online concert is the result of a culminated effort by the production crew in trying to come up with a new broadcasting model for airing music concerts, especially after the outbreak of COVID-19 during which conventional concerts that entail interactions with audience members have become impossible. Using life-size set design such as a ferry and train coupled with AR (augmented reality), the producers of the program present a new kind of visual style. Previously filmed footages of the choir, dancers and the orchestra were played on the LED screen in the background. This show aimed to provide comfort and joy to viewers during one of the biggest holidays in Korea amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Approximately 7.46 million viewers watched the show, resulting in phenomenal ratings (29% nation-wide based AGB Nielsen TV ratings) which was one of the highest in recent times.
Na Hoon-a is known as the “Emperor of Trot”.
This is an online concert in which 1,500 people from Korea and overseas logged on to during the COVID-19 pandemic. Producers of the show maximized viewers’ experience by utilizing AR (augmented reality) technology. In addition to hiring various guest musicians and choreographers, producers tapped on high-tech video technology to play back pre-filmed performances of a big choir and an orchestra on large screens.
