I was first introduced to Gemma’s work when I went to see her play, ‘48’. I was blown away by her ability to weave together wit and warmth to bring to life the story of the Stardust tragedy. With ‘The Rest in Jellies’, Gemma had written another beautiful script with humour and subtle, emotional depth so, when she got in touch to ask about directing I jumped at the chance.
The script emanates a raw sincerity and we tried to carry this approach through to the production. With Gemma’s friends and family helping out both sides of the camera I think we were able to create something that feels genuine and true to life. I’m really proud of what we were able to achieve with ‘The Rest in Jellies’ and helping Gemma make her first short film was a wonderful experience.
