Soren Jocumsen is an emerging filmmaker located in Regional Queensland and has recently completed his studies attaining his Bachelor of Digital Media with Distinction, minoring in Screen Production and Graphic Design. His latest project, The Pursuer, is an exploration of some personal and universal experiences, told through the Horror genre. Crafted as a complete solo endeavour, this film was an opportunity for Soren to showcase his camera, writing, directing, acting, and editing skills, summarizing his studies at Central Queensland University into one final project. From here, Soren aims to branch out and connect with other filmmakers in his region first, before potentially looking further south and even abroad for opportunities in the industry.
I wrote and directed The Pursuer after being inspired by my experiences of working many long, sometimes frustrating, days/nights in the shed with my father. While we share a strong connection, there are always those moments of comfort and conflict with many “hold that torch still” interactions over the years. In making this film, my goal here was to immerse the viewer in the feelings that Damon experiences as he comes face to face with this presence. I aimed to highlight the fear that can come in isolation. By mixing my personal stories with other common themes, I hope to leave audiences reflecting on their relationships with family, friends, and those unknowns and fears that sometimes seem to constantly pursue us.
