Director Statement

Dear Selection Committee,

Along with my Producer, I am thrilled to submit my short film, "The Proposal," for consideration at your film festival and awards.

As the Director of the film, I would like to share my statement to provide insight into the creative vision and intent behind this project.

"The Proposal" is an intimate exploration of love, vulnerability, and the complexities of human relationships. Through this film, I aimed to depict a heartfelt journey that delves into the essence of connection and how perception is reality which is played out through the main characters. In fact, all four principal actors create a beautiful ensemble that tells a short but heart bruising story.

Drawing inspiration from real-life experiences and emotional authenticity, "The Proposal" embraces a minimalist approach, focusing on understated performances, subtle gestures, and nuanced expressions. By stripping away unnecessary distractions, I aimed to create an immersive experience that invites viewers to intimately connect with all the characters and their emotional journeys.

The film's deliberate pacing and organic cinematography serve to evoke a sense of intimacy and introspection. I wanted to capture the intricacies of human interaction, the unspoken moments, and the fragility found in vulnerability. Through moments of silence and delicate exchanges, "The Proposal" invites the audience to reflect on their own experiences of love, loss, and the choices we make in pursuit of happiness.

"The Proposal" has been an incredibly rewarding project, earning acclaim and recognition, including two Best Director awards for me and two Best Producer awards for Christopher McPhillips. These accolades not only validate the artistic choices made during production but also reinforce the film's ability to resonate with audiences on a profound level.

It is with great anticipation that I offer "The Proposal" for consideration at your film festival and awards. I believe that the festival's commitment to showcasing compelling and emotionally resonant works aligns perfectly with the intentions and spirit of this film. I am eager to share this heartfelt story with a wider audience and engage in meaningful discussions about love, vulnerability, and the human condition.

Thank you for considering "The Proposal", I am honoured to have the opportunity to contribute to the festival and connect with fellow filmmakers and film enthusiasts.

Eli Forbes
