Director Biography - Didrik Tessier

Didrik Tessier is a Stockholm-based filmmaker focusing on intimate, character-driven stories. His work explores emotional complexity within close relationships, often through contained, high-intensity moments.

The Promise is his first short film and has received international recognition, including Best First Time Filmmaker at the Swedish International Film Festival, as well as Best Short Film awards at the 4th Dimension Independent Film Festival and Clown International Film Festival.

Director Statement

With The Promise, I wanted to start from something familiar and relatable, then gradually reveal hidden layers — reminding us that there is always more beneath the surface of a situation than what first appears.

The film takes place during a single, intense moment early one morning. We meet Viggo, a 13-year-old boy who refuses to go to school, and a mother who tries to help him move forward — with good intentions that are gradually put to the test.

As the perspective shifts, everything takes on a new meaning, inviting the audience to reconsider their assumptions and see the situation through new eyes.

The Promise has received multiple international recognitions and will have its theatrical premiere on April 13–14, 2026 at Paradiso in Ubud, Bali.
