The Price For Fake Peace

"The Price for Fake Peace", a documentary with feature elements, reveals one of the most pivotal periods in Armenian history. The film highlights the period from April to May 1918, leading up to the Battle of Sardarapat. In the spring of 1918, taking advantage of the retreat of Russian troops from the Caucasian front, the Turkish army launched a war against Armenia. In exchange for peace, Turkish diplomats demanded the surrender of first Kars and then Alexandropol (now Gyumri) without resistance. The film is based solely on the testimonies of eyewitnesses, participants of those events and press publications of that time. The presented memoirs and other publications show how the Armenian side, believing in Turkey's false promises of peace, surrendered two of Armenia's most important cities. However, instead of peace, Armenians were massacred and plundered in the Kars region and Alexandropol province. After each concession, the Turks demanded another. Thus, the Turkish army reached the outskirts of Yerevan, where the Battle of Sardarapat prevented its further advance.
