The Passion According to G.H.
Rio de Janeiro, 1964. After experiencing the end of a passionate relationship, G.H., a sculptor from Copacabana’s artistic elite, dismisses her black housemaid and decides to organize her rooftop apartment herself, starting with the housemaid’s room – which she pictures as filthy. Once there, she finds herself facing an enormous cockroach, and her own deep fears are revealed – the reflection of a society filled with prejudice against the people it considers dirty, creeping and subordinate, just like the housemaid herself. While confronting the insect, G.H. dives into an existential via crucis, which makes her question all social, patriarchal and religious conventions that continuously constraint the female’s role.
