Laura Pedrosa was born in Lisbon, Portugal, in 1998. She graduated with a BA in Film Studies from King's College London in 2019, after finishing high school in Maine in the year of 2015-2016 and studying abroad at the University of California, San Diego, as part of an exchange program, in the year of 2017-2018. She also enrolled in a Part-Time Filmmaking course at the Met Film School of London in 2016-2017.
Since then, she has published several articles in Portuguese publication Jornal de Letras, has worked as an English-Portuguese translator and worked as a content creator for LEFFEST - Lisbon & Estoril Film Festival in 2019.
I see "The Painter" as my first step towards becoming a professional filmmaker.
It reflects many of the identity issues artists - especially those of us starting out - face: not only within themselves, but also during the process of absorbing ideas and images they come to incorporate into their creations.
I spent a lot of time learning how to get this film the way I wanted it to be, and it wouldn't have been possible without the team of people across two countries - the UK and Portugal - who helped me channel the experimental mindset I had planned through a cohesive set of images, words, movements and music.
"The Painter" was originally shot in 2017 but suffered post-production changes over the following years, finally being scored and seeing its sound finalized in late 2020.
