The Overcoat
Adapted from Nikolai Gogol’s eponymous work, The Overcoat tells the story of an invisible clerk in the cold streets of Petersburg, striving to exist through a new coat. Seeking meaning in his quiet and colorless life, Akaky Akakievich saves money for months to have one made; yet his happiness is short-lived. When the coat is stolen, Akaky is once again cast into solitude and ultimately continues his silent rebellion, haunting the city’s streets like a ghost. The film offers a melancholic reinterpretation that confronts the individual’s yearning for visibility with the cold face of bureaucracy. Created entirely through artificial intelligence tools, this short film reintroduces Gogol’s timeless masterpiece to contemporary audiences.
