The Other Women

The Other Women is an unpretentious account of a woman and her deep dilemmas in personal relationships. It is a curious attempt at the language of love and its complications and how time can be of the essence. The film centrally revolves around the world of the protagonist Joy who finds herself at the center of a story that she may have been a part of even earlier. Delving into an array of emotions, traveling through generations, there is a question almost, as to who and why are they the other?

Director Biography - Jemini Phukan

Jemini Phukan is one of the founding partners of Saj Entertainment - a production house from Guwahati that has been working with story-driven films and advertisements. She has been playing an active role in producing quality ad films for various brands in the North Eastern region of India. Her first feature film Boroxun: Songs for Rain - an Assamese film that deals with the topics of social construct in rural Assam, superstitions, as well as gender issues - has won numerous accolades worldwide. The Other Women, a short film, is her directorial debut and is a film about women and their issues and the layers and dichotomy of the other in our society.

A graduate of law from M.S. Ramaiah College of Law, Bangalore, Jemini did her Master’s in English from Jain University, Bangalore, and is also currently pursuing a Ph.D. degree in the subject. She is also the founder of Seda Hermosa, a textile brand set up in collaboration with Swarovski Crystals.

Director Statement

This film is an anecdote emerging from extremely intimate places of the heart and has always been my dream to speak to the audience about my own dilemmas. Being a woman, I am always intrigued by the multiple accounts, where stories could be told through unapologetic voices in our society. This has planted a seed within me of telling and retelling events, fiction, non-fiction, etc. The Other Women is my debut film as a Director. It will my endeavor to bring more such stories of women from various walks of life.
