Director Biography - Jonny Mowat

Jonny Mowat is a writer and director based in Glasgow, Scotland. His films combine his bold aesthetic style with a passion for narratives that dig into the dark to find glimmers of light, using humour to lead the way.

His latest comedy short Behold, This Dreamer Cometh, currently in post-production, follows a young man at church camp who dreams of his deceased dad, and is “surprisingly funny”. Prior to that, he made the short documentary No A Basher, following an ageing Glaswegian mountaineer who can no longer climb the hills he loves, as well as the comedy drama short The Organist, about the impact of a replacement organist at a funeral. He has also worked on numerous music videos and commercial works in visual art and design, for clients such as Bottle Rockets, Glasgow Film Festival, and BBC Scotland.

Director Statement

"The Organist" is my first film, and a deeply personal one. Based on the day of my own dad's funeral, the film explores the absurd reality of death, and life continuing to be strange and laughable, even in the face of grief.
