Director Statement

Alkisah Si Dewa tells the story of a boy’s journey in tackling his fears and doubts about adulthood, wrapped in magical realism. As a quiet kid growing up in a strict and stern household, I found my words through photography and film. Growing up in Indonesia with a lot of Hollywood role models, my childhood was influenced, even guided, towards foreign pop culture which is often unrelated to the complexity of being a kid in Indonesia. This film is aimed to be an inspiration for Indonesian kids to be critical while growing up and have a belief that adulthood is not something to be afraid of. I want to create an adventure story for kids that not only convey the “exciting” part but also explores the mental health side of kids which is rarely talked about on
screen.
