Director Biography - Philip Jamal Rachid

At the age of 5 Philip was already performing and touring on stage with the Kurdish band Awara. Ever since he has been developing his arts.

Besides an international acting and dancing career, the multi talented Philip Rachid has made the decision to develop his writing and directing. abilities Following in the footsteps of his father. The Kurdish writer and historian, professor Jamal Rachid Ahmed.
In 2012 Philip made his début as a Cinema Director with the independent Kurdish film ZOL'A. Which premièred at the Duhok International Film Festival, screened at the Anthology Film Archives in New York and was nominated at the International Kurdish Youth festival in San Diego in 2013.
In 2014 Philip has mentored and choreographed children with autism in the UAE for the Musical "As One" which was produced by Image Nation and directed by Emmy Award winning Tricia Regan and Initiated by Shaikha Shamsa Bint Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan .
To study the art of photography Philip Rachid assisted the Director of Photography on the feature Documentary "Sounds of the Sea", by Award winning Emirati female Director Nujoom Al Ghanem.
He has had the honour to be chosen to participate in private lectures/workshops by film maker Spike Lee, Hollywood producer Ashok Amritraj and Norman B Schwartz.
Currently Philip is picked as one of the finalist in the Arab Film Studio in the UAE and is filming his first commissioned short film “The Moonlight Rider”.
