The Microcosm of the Euganean Hills

The Euganean Hills stand out in the heart of the Veneto plain in Italy with their unmistakable conical volumes. The almost perfect geometry is the formidable result of volcanic phenomena that began over 40 million years ago.
Their position and conformation create environments that allow the development of plant and animal species not seen in other areas of the Po Valley.
The documentary provides an insight into the world of arthropods in particular, bringing to light little-known species or those we encounter every day in their everyday life.

Director Biography - Gianluca Doremi

Gianluca Doremi was born on 13 December 1969 in Friuli Venezia Giulia (Italy), where he still lives. During his childhood, he developed and manifested a passion for the 'small world' that led him to discover nature with the enthusiasm that only a child can have. In 2010 he began photographing and filming the world of insects and other arthropods, and since 2015 he has broadened his passion by making short documentaries not only about the world of insects but also about the environment and history of the plains of north-eastern Italy.

In 2022 he finished his first 'long' documentary, after about three years of filming, entitled 'The Onara Swamp Park'.
In 2024, in collaboration with director of photography Eva Carraro and internationally renowned entomologist Enzo Moretto, he finished the Citizen Science project "The Microcosm of the Euganean Hills", a documentary on the arthropods present in the Euganean Hills
