Director Biography - Joshua Doce

Joshua Andrey A. Doce, LPT, is a Bicolano filmmaker and educator whose work bridges cinema, pedagogy, and community engagement. He made his directorial debut with 'Jose Maria,' a finalist at the Cinemalaya Campus Short Shorts (Bicol Region), and has since earned official selections in local and international festivals, including the Smile International Film Festival for Children & Youth and the Puregold CinePanalo Film Festival. He served as Bicolano Language Consultant for 'Unhappy For You,' produced by Star Cinema and Viva Films, starring Joshua Garcia and Julia Barretto, and worked as Second Assistant Director for the Cinemalaya 2025 full-length feature 'Padamlagan.' A Licensed Professional Teacher, Doce integrates storytelling into education while continuing to champion regional narratives that resonate with wider audiences.

Director Statement

Since the COVID-19 pandemic started, we have focused ourselves in front of our gadget's screen in different ways we are comfortable and capable of catching up in class virtually. Waiting to be admitted to the virtual room has been a routine of every student, that is why this film entitled 'the meeting host will let you in soon' was made to express the idea and thought of what if we are being watched even though our camera is off?

This is an experimental film that is told from the view of an online class camera, unveiling the various situations of students while waiting to be admitted in class. It also reveals different stories of gender expression, violence, apathy, and tolerance. Through its viewpoint, we see attached stories that need to be addressed, we see reality, an outcry for awareness and kindness.
