The Medusa Box Prologue

A mysterious woman flees for her life and a dark chapter of Dartmoor folklore is written.

The Medusa Box Prologue was shot in an eerie forest on the edge of Dartmoor on the Spring Equinox 2022, with a cast and crew fuelled mainly by cake and fake blood.
It uses in camera effects and the power of suggestion to allow the audience to fill in the gory gaps.

As the title suggests, The Medusa Box Prologue is the opening scene to what will be a feature length film, if all goes to plan, however, the prologue works as a self contained short film in its own right and will give audiences a grizzly taster of things to come.

Think Blood On Satans Claw meets Midsommar.

Director Biography - Rebecca Melvin Phillips

Rebecca (Bex) Melvin Phillips is a UK-based filmmaker, choreographer and unashamed horror nerd with a love for the weird & wonderful. She produces cross-platform work under the name [EK!] Productions, who's ethos is 'Strange is Beautiful'.

Her filmography consists of narrative short horror film, off-kilter dance film and installation, music video and experimental short film, all of which are kissed with the bloody brush of horror.

As a director, Bex loves experiementing with in-camera techniques and the oldskool special effects as used in 70's and 80's horror. She combines these lo-fi methods with dynamic camera movement which has a choreographic style.

As an indie filmmaker, Bex films to date are low to no budget and she gets stuck in to a number of roles including producing, editing, choreography and production design. She loves rising to the creative challenges indie filmmaking brings and enjoys collaborating with other artists and filmmakers to make cool shit happen.

Her influences include John Carpenter, Sam Raimi, George A Romero and Dario Argento. Her ambition is to break into this boys club and give female horror filmmakers a louder voice. She would also like to be able to quit her day jobs and make a full-time career out of filmmaking.

In 2023, Bex organised her first small scale horror film festival, ANINA, in her home town of Newton Abbot in the UK, showcasing low budget independent short horror films. She also writes film reviews and articles for Devon & Cornwall Film and enjoys reading about the esoteric, folklore and the supernatural.

Bex loves all things horror and it will always will hold a special place in her cold dark heart.
