Swachata has vivid memories of herself as a little girl, entranced by the magic of watching her father performing in television serials, while she sat next to him. Her parents put her in a school system where Bengali was the first language. This decision, and her modest upbringing in a small town on the outskirts of Kolkata, gave Swachata a firm foundation in the rich literary, artistic and cultural traditions of Bengal.
Swachata’s parents encouraged her to pursue her cherished dream of becoming a professional actress and advised her to study the craft of acting for both stage and screen.
Her acting journey began with theatre in Kolkata, where she performed and directed plays, and took part in dance dramas. Through her hard work, she earned a First Class Honours degree in Dramatics. Swachata then worked as an assistant scriptwriter and director in Bengali television, to glean more experience “behind the scenes.”
In 2008, she started her studies at FTII. The versatile training helped Swachata master professional skills and taught her how to be a responsible, ethical and dedicated artist. She especially gained a reverence towards the labour involved behind the camera. She feels blessed to have had many respected teachers.
Swachata has worked with directors like Subhash Ghai, Vikramaditya Motwane, and Anurag Basu. She was in the acting faculty at Whistling Woods International and the Institute of Creative Excellence.
The life path chosen by artists is difficult. Swachata faced her own career challenges with fortitude, patience, and faith. The cutthroat competitiveness in the industry can often demoralize artists, but Swachata never gave up. She worked hard to perfect her Hindi and learned English as an adult. She now lives in the New York Tri-state area, where she is continuing to build on her promising career with creatives from around the world.
At the age of 34 I left my country & career for love. I am a fresh immigrant in US soil embracing my new country & culture. I love diversity, have worked & wish to continue working in different languages.
