The Man With The Golden Throat
The Man With The Golden Throat is a thrilling dark comedy, that follows a once glorified voice over artist, as he's given a final chance to prove to both the industry, and himself, that he's still got what it takes.

Tim is an award winning director, actor and screenwriter. He wrote, co-produced and starred in Lemonade Stand, which won the world's largest short film festival, Tropfest. He's the recipient of a Silver Award at the London International Awards, as well as receiving a Crystal in the Adstars Awards. Tim is also recipient of the ABC Pitch iView Award, seeing him develop his own television comedy series, Waiting. A graduate from the prestigious Victorian College of the Arts (Acting), Tim began his career as a stand-up comedian and has featured in plenty of film and television roles, including Mel Gibson’s Hacksaw Ridge, Wentworth, Ronnie Chieng: International Student, Upper Middle Bogan, Newton’s Law and Utopia. He can be seen in the current season of Australia's top rating television series Doctor Doctor, and is a writer on Gristmill’s ABC comedy, Little Lunch.
Pete and I met when we did a national theatre tour of Australia. It was a two man comedy show, written by Pete, where Pete played a washed up theatre director and I played a star from a television cop drama, who he'd cast as the headliner, in order to drive ticket sales at the box office. We had a blast performing the show and it cemented a great friendship.
But even back then, Pete was concerned with ageing - especially working in an industry that celebrates youth and star power. Regardless of his immense credentials, he'd started to experience a shift in how the industry placed him, so it seemed natural to explore these ideas further within the film.
Personally working as both an actor and commercial director, the world of the voice over studio seemed the perfect fit - it's a bizarre environment that demands some of the most absurd performances, under the greatest degrees of pressure. Add to that, an industry that's on the decline and a shadow of it's former heady self. For the character of Pete, who used to be a king in this world, he must now deal with both his own self disdain, as well as a lack of relevance to those around him.
Ironically the location in which we shot, is also a ghost of it's former glory. The studio used to engineer and mix for some of the most renowned Australian films from the last three decades, including Oscar and BAFTA winning productions. Unfortunately given the shifting tides of the industry, it's been forced to close it's doors in recent years and it was only by chance, that we were able to film there.
In some ways, this is a tragic film...but with a whole lot of laughs. It's a tragic comedy. I wanted to create a film that was primarily entertaining and funny, but also had a strong sense of heart and genuine emotional stakes. I believe we were able to achieve that balance and I hope you enjoy.
Cheers,
Tim
