Julio Quintana is a Latinx writer, director and Emmy award-winning producer from Austin, Texas. After graduating with a double major in RadioTelevision-Film and Religious studies from the University of Texas, Quintana went on to work on The Tree of Life (2011) and To The Wonder (2012) where he developed his unique style under the mentorship of legendary director, Terrence Malick. Shortly thereafter, Quintana went on to write and direct his first feature film The Vessel starring Martin Sheen, which Malick executive produced and which was released in theaters in 2016 and received glowing reviews. In 2019, Quintana co-wrote and directed his second feature film, ON THE LINE, starring Dennis Quaid and an all-Latinx cast based on the true story of an orphanage in Cabo San Lucas wiped out by a hurricane and the kids who would go on to compete in a world-renowned fishing tournament in the hopes of rebuilding the only place they’ve ever called home. The film was financed and produced by Endeavor Content, Sony Provident and Mucho Mas Media and premiered on Netflix in the summer of 2021 in the #2 viewership spot worldwide. Off the huge success of On the Line, Mucho Mas Media and Endeavor Content came together once again this time to produce THE LONG GAME also based on a true story set in the world of golf, that Julio co-wrote and is currently directing, starring Jay Hernandez and Dennis Quaid based on the book, “Mustang Miracle.”
The Golden Age. The Greatest Generation. John Wayne and Norman Rockwell. Marilyn Monroe and apple pie. The 1950s is a decade that holds a special place in American mythology. Forged in the struggles of the Great Depression and World War Il, Americans everywhere picked themselves up by their bootstraps. Even the ones that didn't have bootstraps. Even the ones that weren't considered American.
Equipped with only rakes and shovels, determination and hope, The Long Game is the inspiring true story of the Del Rio Mustangs, a group of young Latinos who literally created opportunity for themselves out of the harsh brush lands of South Texas. As our modern world becomes increasingly cynical and divided, The Long Game reminds me of the promise that brought my parents to this country in search of a better life, and I am inspired by the example of these brave men and women who dared to believe in the American dream at a time when nobody believed in them.
I really hope you enjoy this amazing Texas story and this Texas film that is very dear to all of us who made it.
