Rediscovering the History of the U.S./Mexico Border
The international boundary line between the United States and Mexico was created following a war in 1848 between those two nations. Since then, politicians have tried to depict the region as merely a conflict zone. It is much more than that.

Director Franc Contreras was born and raised in Tucson, Arizona, near the U.S./Mexico border. His earliest memories include family trips to towns along both sides of the international divide. Franc has been documenting life and culture along the border for more than 20 years.
U.S. President Donald Trump has been using politically charged rhetoric to vilify immigrants from Latin American and demand the construction of a border wall. But such barriers have existed for decades and Trump is not the first politician to use negative talk about the borderline to bolster his standing among his domestic based. We wanted to explain this history visually and show that the U.S./Mexico border is also a wondrous place.
