Director Biography - Nikolina Riselius

Nikolina Riselius is a 21-year-old filmmaker from Umeå, Sweden, who focuses on short, narrative works and has produced, written, directed and edited several projects. She previously studied both theatre and filmmaking and is now pursuing directing and writing at Prague Film School, in the Czech Republic.

In 2023 she started up a film firm, Riselius Film, to deepen her journey in film and production. Under the company, she’s completed three financed short films, which has thus far accumulated 17 awards and festival selections. Her second short, “Här är inget”, won at Novemberfestivalen(2024), the nationals in Swedish youth film, where it also garnered recognition from the Swedish Film Institute.

All her works have had a foot in some supernatural or unnatural aspects, which is where her passion within film and storytelling lies and is eager to explore the strangeness deeper in future projects. She's drawn to narratives that step outside the real world as, for her, it sparks deeper engagement and opens up new possibilities for exploring themes and stories when it’s unbound.

Director Statement

This is the first, debut, short film of Nikolina Riselius, financed by Film i Västerbotten. This film was made firstly with the purpose of exploration, both in the craft of filmmaking, creating an actual film for the first time, as well as experimenting and discovering another world from an unfamiliar perspective we usually don't get to see.
