The Laxman Das circus
Around the world, the circus is a well-liked form of mass art and entertainment. ‘The Royal Pakistan Circus’ was founded by Shri Laxman Das in 1947. Laxman Das is also credited as founding the circus business in our country. He has dedicated his life to making this sector more popular. Laxman Das had experience working with numerous circus troupes prior to the foundation of this team. He self-taught himself a number of circus games. During the Pakistani era, his circus party was quite well-liked.
In 1971, The liberation war of Bangladesh began. Laxman Das has assisted the liberation fighters in a number of ways. This gifted artist lost his life during Bangladesh's liberation war. During the Muktijuddho, the Pakistani army cruelly killed him together with his circus elephant. His wife was injured, and they stole his gold jewelry, cash, and other valuables.
With new 02 titles like "The Royal Bengal Circus" and "The Laxman Das Circus," the circus reopened after the independence of the country. The circus troupe has been entertaining people from all around the country ever since it was founded. The two honourable sons of Laxman Das, the founder of the circus, Mr. Arun Das and Mr. Biren Das, are working hard to maintain the industry.
With circus artists, pandals, other circus equipment, elephants, tigers, lions, and other animals, this circus company used to travel throughout Bangladesh on land and by boat. They travelled mainly by boat. For a month and a half before to the circus performance, the staff and animals of the circus company all stayed in pandals and boats. At the end of the performance, the entire pandal of the circus is destroyed. The circus people moved to a new location with animals.
Laxman Das lived in the Gournadi of the Barisal district. This circus team is constantly staffed with 60/70 people. This group has trained many orphans. This work is crucial to their and their families' survival. However, the number of shows in this nearly extinct industry is rapidly declining by the day. The talented circus performers are losing their jobs. The circus artists are leaving one by one.
Permission to perform in a circus is not easily obtained. As a result, a large event such as a circus cannot be shown. To keep this industry alive, the government and the people must work together.
The harsh realities of circus performers' lives have been highlighted in our documentary. Their uncertain future faces a harsh reality. However, by the end of the show, circus performers have found happiness and are ready to conquer the world. A true artist always makes others happy by sacrificing himself. The main goal of this documentary is to help people who have worked their entire lives to keep the circus industry alive.
