Director Statement

Born into the Korean culture, raised in a western educational system, and living in various places in Asia, between an emotional artist and an objective businessman; where finding a balance between two extremes was a major component of my life. I was a jock, and a captain of a sports team; I was an artist who loved to quietly paint and take part in cultural events. I went to school for business, returning again to study art. I constantly felt I had to choose between these subjects. It took me a while to realize that all these juxtapositions were of a single value. I didn’t have to choose or balance anything because I had already combined them into a single value that made me who I am. My extreme extroverted and introverted persona, which seems so different from others, are unique characteristics that make up who I am.
My animated films visually represent these coexisting extremes. Animation is created with images that are still and when joined and layered, they create the illusion of extreme motion and energy. This medium gives me the ability to amplify emotional experiences from a variety of perspectives resulting from my ‘double-sided’ life. My latest film features the purest raw form of a human, being children, having trouble controlling their gluttony/ greed. So dealing with two themes of naivety and gluttony. How too much entertainment and lack of law can lead to catastrophe. My films are autobiographical expressions of my double-sided world.
