The Last Mission
Domon, formerly an officer of the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force and commander of a special forces unit, was deployed to Eastern Europe two years ago. In order to cover up the tragedy that took place on that battlefield, he now lives in isolation with his former subordinate, Kazuo Namioka, who suffers from PTSD. Two years after leaving the service, Domon learns that the culprit behind the murder of Kazuo’s fiancée is Ken Hamada, CEO of a cutting-edge robotics company.
Meanwhile, Koharu—an investigative journalist searching for her missing brother Kazuo—makes contact with Domon and locates Kazuo. She blames Domon for the tragedy, insisting he is at the root of it all. Soon, a skilled assassin called “Z,” hired by Hamada, attacks Kazuo and Koharu. Domon intervenes to protect them, defeating Z after a fierce battle. However, an organization bent on hiding the truth exerts pressure, forcing Koharu into silence and ordering Domon and Kazuo to move abroad. In fact, Hamada’s robotics firm has ties to the Ministry of Defense through the development of military robots.
Domon is torn between following the organization’s orders and ensuring the happiness of his wounded subordinate. Ultimately, he chooses to defy those orders. Entrusting Kazuo’s safety to Koharu, Domon sets off alone on his motorcycle for Hamada’s factory—to settle everything once and for all.

The Japan Self-Defense Forces (JSDF) constitute a unique military organization in the world. Under the country’s pacifist Constitution, the use of force is tightly restricted; in fact, the JSDF has never engaged in combat since the end of World War II.
The film explores the hypothetical scenario of the JSDF being deployed in combat overseas, focusing on the clash between individual soldiers and the institution they serve. It is an action thriller that also retains the atmosphere of a war film—albeit one without conventional battle scenes.
Masashi Takahashi, the lead actor, was once one of Japan’s foremost stunt performers. He made his on-screen acting debut at 58 in LONE WOLF (2022), and this project marks only his second dramatic role. Takahashi literally risks his body in the action sequences. The production employs no computer graphics or other visual effects; every stunt was captured live. The horse-mounted sequences in particular possess a realism rarely seen elsewhere and are certain to captivate audiences. Now 60, Takahashi continues to perform scenes that are genuinely life-threatening.
While soldiers and their commanders may appear heroic as individuals, the organization they form can also seem terrifying. The film therefore asks what path Japan, the JSDF, and its neighboring countries will choose amid the uncertainty of the 21st century
