'The Last Mermaid' (Comedy Short)

Vape-smoking, whisky-swigging middle-aged mermaid PEARL hides away on the banks of a remote Scottish loch keeping herself to herself. Owner of an aquatic fantasy sex-line site, she lives a very different life to her enchanting ancestors ... she's the ultimate fish out of water.
When her best friend SADIE brings the shocking news that PEARL is now the last mermaid left alive (because the rest of the mer-race have been wiped out by marine pollution) PEARL is faced with the ultimate dilemma; stay safely stuck in her ways or face her fears and save her race from extinction? But with just 3 days left until the blue moon, PEARL hasn't time to search for a ‘sole‘ mate, she just needs a baby ...

I love using humour to shine light on serious issues, so immediately fell in love with the character of PEARL, whose story allows us to explore themes around plastic sea pollution, female body image and modern fertility.
